Dear people of Seattle, you can pat yourselves on the back today, because Seattle was just given the title of Smartest City in North America by Fast Company

The criteria for a Smart City included 28 indicators collected from each city. In a larger sense, they are concerned with how well cities can adapt to the future, especially how cities will be able to accommodate growing urbanization through transportation, housing, and increases in the demand for food, water and energy. Additionally, the cities were ranked on their ability to utilize technology, optimize infrastructure, leverage citizen participation, make better land-use decisions, break down bureaucracy, and stimulate an entrepreneurial economy.
Smart Economy, Smart Environment, Smart Government, Smart Living, Smart Mobility, and Smart People are the seven categories, and we're number 1 overall!
Seattle led Smart Economy and Smart Government categories and was second in Smart People behind Washington D.C. Seattle is home to lots of sustainability innovation, and is home to the Bainbridge Graduate Institute, one of the world's leading master's programs dedicated to sustainability. Sustainable Seattle and Climate Solutions are good examples of local organizations focused on promoting sustainable development.
Seattle is a quality hub for startup companies, and as we all know, is home to some big brains over at Microsoft, Adobe, Boeing, Nordstrom, and other big names. In fact, Seattle is known for it's ability to attract creative talent, and was ranked fourth in the world in the Global Startup Ecosystem Index back in 2012.
